We live in a culture obsessed with doing. Even in the church, it’s easy to get swept up in a rhythm of activity that looks holy but leaves us exhausted. We hustle to be better, do more, serve harder. And while none of those things are wrong in themselves, they can quietly become a substitute for something far more important: being with Him.
Remember the story of Mary and Martha? (Luke 10:38–42) Martha was doing good things—serving, preparing, working hard. But Mary? She was doing the one thing Jesus said was truly necessary: sitting at His feet, listening. Jesus didn’t scold Martha for serving. He gently redirected her attention. He invited her to choose presence over pressure.
This is where “worthy without striving” begins.
Your worth doesn’t increase when your calendar is full. You aren’t more loved when you’re “getting it right.” You don’t have to perform to belong. God isn’t impressed by your hustle. He’s moved by your heart.
There is a kind of striving that leaves us tired and hollow—the kind that climbs the ladder of productivity, only to realize it’s leaning on the wrong building. And then there is a holy pursuit: the kind that flows from sitting with Jesus first. The kind that listens before leaping. That kind of “striving” is really just desire—to know Him more, to be near His heart, to walk in step with what He’s already doing.
This is where intercession begins, too. Franklyn recently wrote a deep piece on prophetic intercession, and it echoes this same truth: without intimacy, our efforts lose alignment. We can be deeply sincere and still miss what God is truly doing. That’s not failure—it’s just a call to pause. To sit down. To listen again.
You are already loved.
You are already chosen.
You are already welcome.
Everything else flows from that.
So today, maybe set down the to-do list for a moment.
Maybe let go of the pressure to perform.
And instead, choose what Mary chose.
Sit at His feet.
Soak in His presence.
Let His voice name you: beloved, worthy, Mine.
