How Do I Experience God?

We hear stories of dramatic encounters—visions, dreams, healings—but what does it mean to experience God in our own lives, right here, right now?

Many of us long for that moment: the whisper that cuts through the noise, the embrace that reaches our soul, the undeniable sense that we’ve been seen by the One who made us. And yet, we often wonder if those moments are reserved for someone else—someone holier, someone more spiritual, someone… different.

🌿But here’s the truth: God wants to be experienced. He didn’t create us for distance—He created us for closeness. Experiencing God begins not with striving, but with opening—our hearts, our time, our attention.

He shows up in the quiet places we don’t always value.

Tears we hide.
Awe of the natural world.
Moment we open scripture and a single verse feels like it was written just for us.
Unexpected joy that bubbles up when we least expect it.

Experiencing God is less about doing and more about receiving.

Presence.
Trust.
Letting go of the pressure to perform and simply being with Him.

And just like any deep relationship, it takes time. It’s not a checklist—it’s a journey. As we learn to listen, to wait, to surrender, and to seek—not for answers, but for Him—we find that He’s been drawing near all along.

God is not a concept to understand.
He is a person to encounter.

At Forerunner Ministries, this is our heartbeat. Every course, every blog, every gathering is designed to lead you not just into knowledge about God—but into a real, living experience with Him. We create space for you to grow in intimacy, hear His voice, and walk in the supernatural relationship He desires for you. You don’t have to figure it out alone—we’re here to walk the journey with you.

For yrs. I believed to passionately seek God meant attending as many exciting conferences as I could or other types of corporate gatherings, services, prayer events or labouring for Him in ministry. And these are valuable. I have met God in those places. But there came a time when the Lord regularly highlighted His Presence in the simple & ordinary moments of my life. I would be hanging laundry on a clothesline, weeding in the garden, driving, walking in nature when awareness of His nearness would wash over my being. His anointing would fall, I might hear His voice sharing something special with my heart. No big worship band, no anointed sermon, no extended prayer time or successful event, which I can still appreciate. But I learned in that time His closeness was never dependent on these gatherings. Or that I had to get “there” to experience Him more. He was here. And in every moment. I may have known that intellectually but these small & ordinary moments led me into it experientially. A sweet, personal, heart connecting & mutual enjoyment of one another. I loved this article— it draws my heart to tune into that awareness of His nearness & to remember this is a heart experience journey that continues!

In reply to Denni Roy. Hi Denni, Thank you so much for sharing your story—it moved me deeply. What you described—the shift from chasing God in grand moments to discovering Him in the quiet, ordinary places—captures the very heart of what that blog post was meant to convey. Your words are such a beautiful reminder that God is with us not just in the spectacular, but in the simple. The laundry line, the garden, the quiet road—these become altars when we realize He’s near. I’m so encouraged that the article stirred your heart and brought you back to that awareness of His presence. That’s what we hope for in everything we share through Forerunner—that people would feel seen, drawn in, and reminded that He’s closer than we think. Your testimony is a gift. Thank you for taking the time to write.
