Sometimes peace doesn’t come like a gentle breeze. It comes like a declaration.

In Judges 6, we meet Gideon—a man hiding in fear, uncertain of his future, unsure of his own strength. He’s visited by an angel who calls him a mighty warrior, even as he threshes wheat in secret. In the face of fear and fragility, God reveals something surprising: His name.

“So Gideon built an altar to the Lord there and called it The Lord Is Peace.” – Judges 6:24

Jehovah Shalom – The Lord is Peace.

Not “The Lord gives peace.” Not “The Lord creates peaceful circumstances.” But: He is Peace.

That’s more than comfort—it’s identity. It means peace isn’t something you chase. It’s Someone you know.

💛 What This Name Means in My Life

There have been seasons where peace felt like the last thing I could access—times when the inside of my heart felt stormier than the world around me. But what I’ve come to learn is this: peace doesn’t start when the chaos ends. Peace starts when Jesus steps in.

Knowing God as Jehovah Shalom means I can be honest about my worry and still choose trust. I can carry unknowns without being undone by them. It means I can stop trying to control everything, and instead lean into the One who already sees the end from the beginning.

He doesn’t just calm storms. Sometimes He sits in the boat with me until the waves quiet down.

🌿 Becoming a Peacemaker

When I know Him as Peace, I don’t just receive calm—I begin to carry it. My tone shifts. My posture softens. My presence changes.

I become a person who brings peace into anxious spaces, not because I’ve mastered stillness, but because He is with me.

He is Peace to me.
And now He is Peace through me.

Jehovah Shalom, be near. Not just around me, but within me.
Speak stillness over the storms I cannot control.
Let me walk into this day as a peacemaker—anchored, assured, and led by You.
