How Do I Get to Know and Love God? (Part 2)

“Be still, and know that I am God.” – Psalm 46:10

A Two-Way Relationship

Knowing God is more than knowing about Him—it’s experiencing Him. A relationship with God is two-way: we speak to Him through prayer, but we must also listen to Him.

Listening can be challenging. Life is busy, and our thoughts are often a whirlwind. Personally, I know how hard it can be to quiet my mind enough to hear God’s voice. But listening is where intimacy grows.

How to Listen to God

Here are practical ways to open your heart and hear from Him:

  1. Set Aside Quiet Time:
Create moments of stillness in your day. Turn off distractions and simply sit in God’s presence.
  2. Meditate on Scripture:
God often speaks through His Word. Read slowly and prayerfully, asking Him to reveal what He wants you to see.
  3. Ask Open-Ended Questions:
Instead of just presenting requests, ask, “What would you like to show me today, Lord?”
  4. Journal Your Thoughts:
Write down impressions, scriptures, or anything that comes to mind. Over time, you may notice patterns of God’s guidance.

Getting to Know God Through His Word

The Bible is God’s story and a window into His heart. Start with passages like Psalm 23 or the Gospel of John to see His character and promises revealed.

As you read, ask:

  • What does this teach me about who God is?
  • How can I respond to His love?

Practical Steps to Deepen Your Relationship

  • Pray Daily: Talk to God honestly about your hopes, struggles, and questions.
  • Worship Regularly: Let worship be a time to express love and gratitude.
  • Join a Community: Surround yourself with others who encourage your faith.

Encouragement

God desires to be known by you. He isn’t distant or hidden—He’s always pursuing, always speaking, and always ready to draw near.

Challenge: Spend time this week intentionally listening to God. Write down what you hear, even if it’s just a whisper. Watch how it transforms your relationship with Him.
