If the Holy Spirit lives in us, what kind of home are we offering Him?
It’s a humbling question. He left the wonders of heaven to dwell in our hearts—not as a guest, but as God. Not for a visit, but for the long haul. And yet, how often do we treat His presence as secondary? How often do we shut Him into one room of the house, keeping the rest locked away?
Sometimes we ask the Spirit for direction or power, but we haven’t made Him truly welcome. We want His help, but not His rearrangement. We want His comfort, but not His conviction. We want a hint, not a habitation.
The truth is, He doesn’t force His way in. He waits to be invited deeper.
So again: Palace or prison?
Have we offered the Spirit a place of honor in our lives—or have we unintentionally confined Him?
A palace is filled with reverence, beauty, and intentional space.
A prison is cramped, hidden, and limited by fear or shame.
What kind of spiritual environment are we cultivating?
God is not asking for perfection. He’s asking for surrender.
The same Spirit who hovered over the waters at creation now dwells in you. The Spirit who raised Christ from the dead lives in you (Romans 8:11). That’s not poetic language. That’s reality. And it changes everything.
You don’t need to fix yourself up to impress Him. But you can ask:
Have I made room for Him today?
Is He central or peripheral?
Am I treating Him like royalty or like a reluctant visitor?
And maybe the more healing question is this:
What would it look like to make my heart a palace again?
A place where He is welcomed, honored, loved.
A place where His voice is the loudest.
A place where His presence shapes everything.
He chose you as His dwelling place.
Let’s choose to make room for Him again.
