You sit in meetings where others receive prophetic words. You hear testimonies of healing, provision, and breakthrough. You read Acts and wonder why your Christianity looks nothing like theirs. The supernatural life — the one where God’s presence is tangible, His voice is clear, and His power shows up — feels like someone else’s story, not yours.
Perhaps you’ve convinced yourself it’s reserved for special people. Pastors. Prophets. People who pray more or believe better. However, Jesus promised something different. Acts 1:8 declares, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you.” Not some of you. All of you. Therefore, the supernatural life isn’t reserved for spiritual elites. Rather, it’s your inheritance as a child of God. These four reasons explain why it feels out of reach — and how to close the gap.
When Supernatural Life Belongs to Everyone Except You
Jesus modeled a supernatural life that wasn’t occasional miracles interrupting ordinary existence. Instead, it was naturally supernatural — heaven touching earth as the normal rhythm of relationship with God. Consequently, John 14:12 records His stunning promise: “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater works than these.”
Yet for many believers, the supernatural feels like an event they attend, not an atmosphere they carry. Additionally, they see it happen for others but never through them. At Forerunner Ministries, we’ve watched countless people discover that what blocked their access wasn’t God’s unwillingness. Rather, specific, removable barriers kept them from the supernatural life God always intended.
Four Reasons You’re Stuck on the Outside
Identifying what keeps heaven closed makes breakthrough possible. These four patterns explain why the supernatural feels distant — and how to step into what’s already yours.
Expecting the Supernatural to Feel Dramatic
Most people think God’s voice should sound audible. They assume His presence arrives with goosebumps and emotion. However, most supernatural encounters feel ordinary in the moment. Moses talked with God like a friend. Similarly, Elijah heard Him in a whisper, not an earthquake. When we wait for drama, we miss the gentle, persistent way God actually shows up.
Comparing Your Beginning to Someone Else’s Middle
The person prophesying confidently over strangers didn’t start there. Instead, they stumbled through early words, questioned what they heard, and grew over time. We watch their maturity and measure it against our inexperience. Therefore, this comparison keeps us stuck as observers instead of stepping into our own journey toward supernatural life.
Believing the Lie That You’re Disqualified
Past mistakes. Current struggles. Secret sins we think God can’t overlook. These whispers convince us the supernatural life is for people who have it together — not messy, broken, ordinary us. However, Scripture tells a different story. God chose Moses the murderer, David the adulterer, Peter the denier. Additionally, Ephesians 3:20 promises God does “immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine” — not because we’re qualified, but because He’s generous.
Not Positioning Yourself Where Breakthrough Happens
As we explored in our recent post about spiritual blockages that keep heaven closed, recognizing what blocks access changes everything. The supernatural life doesn’t fall randomly on lucky people. Rather, it flows to those who remove blockages and position themselves under the opening heaven provides.
