Can you even listen to God? Is this even possible? Does he actually have something to say to you?
Growing up we didn’t really experience anything at church that I could have labeled as the presence of God. We were taught that we were sinful and lived down below very much separated from God. God was Holy and way up there and he was very much separated from us. We were also taught that the cross formed a bridge between these two worlds. What that bridge was and how it operated and even how you could experience that – well the details on that were few and far between.
We actually still lived and thought as if the cross didn’t bridge these two worlds. Relationship with God was in fact just a phrase that was thrown around that had no meaning in day to day life. Listening to God was beyond what we ever hoped was ever possible. I don’t think we knew anyone who had experienced that. God had simply stopped directly interacting with the world. Or so we thought.
Listening and communication form the basis of every relationship. The quality of that communication in so many ways determines the quality of the whole relationship. You can see this in every aspect of your own life. When the communication breaks down, everything else is sure to follow.
Conversely when communication improves everything else will improve along with it.
Does God actually have something to say to you? Does he want to communicate? Yes, he does! Ps 139 says “How precious are your thoughts towards me oh God were I to count them they would outnumber the grains of sand.”
Stretch your faith to believe that God isn’t distant and far away, that he is close at hand and within reach. His thoughts towards you are without number. Why not ask God to share even just one of those thoughts with you today.
