I had to replace the pump in the basement. It was working intermittently, pumping groundwater, essentially toilet water into a tank. It had stopped working because my kids had flushed string down the drain that got caught in the motor. So I started dismantling the pipe. Shining my flashlight down the hose to see what’s going on in there. Suddenly the pump turns on and splashes me with disgusting water. Soaked, I start having my conversation with God: “What’s the point of listening to you if you’re not warning me in these situations?” And God replied with an inner voice: “You were not asking!”
I needed to learn that day to ask God first. It’s not … good coming to God after the event. You need to seek God first.
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” – Matthew 6:33
When I finally replaced the pump entirely I asked God first and walked with him through the replacement process step by step.
