Years ago my wife did a weekend trip with an outdoor adventure company. Here they had to scale walls without ropes and work as a team to get through a very difficult obstacle course then canoe a very long distance across a lake in rough windy weather. Through this experience, she really got to know these people in a way that would have taken years if they were simply coworkers.
Through the sharing of a common experience and overcoming a problem by working together creates a bond between people that can’t be replicated. This is why certain people remain friends even if you haven’t seen them in years. Relationship is experiential.
Our relationship with God is experiential too. This is why when people really experience God’s presence in a worship service they set that as the benchmark. They will constantly look for that experience because we were meant to experience relationship through these commonly shared experiences. Worship isn’t about music, it’s about sharing an experience with God.
There is a mutual longing in both God’s heart and our own that we would connect together in these deep and meaningful ways.
